Chapter Sixteen

There was someone in bed with him. Sebastian didn’t do sleep-overs, so it took a minute for his brain to figure out why someone’s head would be using his shoulder for a pillow. Micah. Nobody stayed overnight. Ever. But with Micah, it wasn’t as scary. Staying the night, or letting someone stay with him, had always smacked too much of commitment or pressure. It would have given his partners the wrong idea. Micah was different. It hadn’t once occurred to him to hustle Micah home.

He stroked his hand along the smooth skin of Micah’s back, grinning when he hit the waistband of his boxers. Micah had refused to watch TV naked. It was kind of cute.

Micah mumbled something and snuggled in closer, hand resting possessively over Sebastian’s heart. One of Micah’s legs was pressed between Sebastian’s, his thigh pressing against Sebastian’s morning wood. The benefits of waking up with someone in the morning were becoming clear.

Sebastian leaned over, pressing a soft kiss to Micah’s lips. “Morning, baby.”

Micah’s eyes blinked open slowly. “Morning.” He sat up, running his hand through his hair. “Wait a minute. Morning? What time is it?”

Sebastian twisted to look at his alarm clock. “About eight-thirty.”

“Shit! What?” Micah pushed Sebastian away and tumbled from the bed, scrambling for his jeans. “Where’s my phone? Damn it, I can’t believe I fell asleep.”

“What’s the matter?”

“What’s the matter? Are you serious? It’s eight-thirty in the morning. I have class in a half hour. I should have been home to make sure Lexi got up and made it to school okay. I usually handle my mother’s morning hygiene routine before the day nurse gets in and—”

Sebastian sat on the end of the bed. Why was Micah freaking out about this? “Your sister’s what, thirteen? Does she really need you to get her up?”

“She’s fourteen. And that’s not the point.” Micah shoved his hand into the pocket of his discarded jeans and pulled his phone out. “I should have been there. I have responsibilities. I can’t believe I was so reckless. There’s no way I’ll make it to class on time, not even if I go straight there.” He jabbed at his phone. “Damn it! Battery’s dead.”

“Breathe, Micah. So you miss a class. It’s not the end of the world.”

“I don’t skip class.” Micah glared at him. “Why are you just sitting there? You need to get dressed and take me home.”

“I’ll take you home,” Sebastian said, “but you need to relax. So you stayed out all night. It’s not the end of the world. You’ll give yourself a heart attack if you keep up like this.”

Micah found his shirt and tugged it on. “I know you don’t understand what it’s like to have someone depend on you. You get to run around, play at being an adult, but no one has to count on you. Nobody cares if you don’t come home. I don’t have that luxury.”

Sebastian sucked in a breath, surprised at how much Micah’s assessment stung. “Luxury? You think nobody giving a shit about me or my whereabouts makes me lucky?”

“That’s not what I meant.
